FAQs
Shamanism
Shamanism is an ancient spiritual practice that has been observed in various cultures around the world for thousands of years. Shamans are spiritual leaders and healers who possess the ability to communicate with the spirit world to gain knowledge, guidance, and healing for individuals and communities. Shamans have a deep spiritual connection to both Earth life and other realms of existence.
Shamans perform various rituals and practices to facilitate healing, spiritual growth, and balance within individuals and communities. This may include ceremonies, trance states, chanting, rattling, drumming, and the use of sacred plants or herbs for clearing healing purposes.
The role of a shaman varies across cultures, but generally, shamans serve as intermediaries between the human and spirit worlds. They act as healers, counsellors, and guides, helping individuals navigate spiritual crises, illnesses, and life transitions.
Shamanism is not a single organized religion, but rather a spiritual practice found within many different cultures and belief systems. It focuses on personal spiritual experiences, connection with nature, and the balance between the physical and spiritual realms. It’s more a path to follow and have deep connections to wise aged wisdom.
The path to becoming a shaman varies among cultures, but it often involves a spiritual calling, unique training, or an initiation process. At SunGate we work primarily with Peruvian culture. This involves intensive training, mentorship from Skie, and undergoing personal spiritual experiences or trials.
Yes, Shamanism is still practiced in various forms all around the world, including indigenous communities and modern spiritual movements. It has also gained massive interest in Western societies as a means of personal growth, healing, and spiritual exploration.
At SunGate we believe that the path of shamanism is now available to anyone who comes seeking its wisdom. While anyone can learn about shamanic practices and incorporate them into their daily life, the role of an Ayahuasca or plant medicine shaman is typically reserved for individuals who have undergone specific training in the Amazon Rainforest, initiation, and spiritual calling to be in service.
Shamanism in SunGate’s opinion, is compatible with other religious beliefs and can be practiced alongside them. Many individuals integrate shamanic practices into their spiritual lives without conflict with their existing religious beliefs. SunGate believes all are paths of love and unity.
While healing is a significant aspect of shamanic practice, it encompasses much more, including spiritual guidance, personal growth, community rituals, and connection with the natural world. Shamanism addresses the holistic well-being of individuals and communities.
Shamans communicate with spirits and the spiritual world through various practices, including trance states, rituals, fire ceremonies, drumming, and the use of sacred plants or herbs. There is nothing to fear around this communication as it is always done with love and care.
In modern society, shamanism is viewed with a mix of curiosity, scepticism, and interest. While many people embrace shamanic practices for personal growth and healing, others may have never heard of it and others approach it with scepticism due to cultural differences and varying beliefs. Nonetheless, shamanism continues to be practiced and studied worldwide for its spiritual insights and healing potentials. In this modern day, shamanism is fast becoming an everyday spiritually, accepted practice.
